Anyone ever have a vibration from a 9" rear?
Can the carrier cause this? Is it common?

I think you might need to be a bit more specific on your question; does it do it all the time, does it seem more signifigant at any point and time, when did it start... anything happen before it started.. what does it sound like etc. Anything you can think of, that might aid the guys here would be greatly appreciated I'm sure and will speed up your response time.

Do you have the correct u-joints? Any play anywhere in driveshaft or surrounding areas? What speed do you get the vibration at?

Looking back at the post I guess it was funny, but I didn't mean it to be.
I put the car up on stands last night and ran it thru the gears. It is fine in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, but in 5th (T-5) it vibrates at around 2500 RPM. I have 4:30 gears. With no load the vibration isn't as bad as when driving it. Also on the road it vibrates in all gears.

Try removing the wheels/tires and drums from the rear the next time you have it in the air. See what this does for your vibration....

Object of the game is to eliminate possible causes.

Sounds like ujoint angles to me. With no load the pinion does not wrap so the angle problem is lessend. Pinion should be up a few degree's less than the trans is down. You start to hear and feel the vibes when it hits the harmonic HZ, which is why you don't have a problem in the lower gears.

And sometimes it's good to be hard! Heat treat, of course. You don't want your gears to wear out prematurely... Yea, save the softer pro gears for the guys doing the hardcore drag thing.

Vibrations generally come from the driveshaft, but can come from the rearend if something is really worn out.

Good Luck!

Bloose, I just adjusted my pinion angle trying to get rid of the vibration. I now have 4 degrees down at the trans, 4 degrees up at the pinion and the driveshaft is at 2 degrees. Does this sound correct?

A simple thing that was also referred to above....I had a vibration that I was sure was caused by my new 9" rear, since my wheels had just been balanced. It would show up at high speed.

I took the same wheels to a better shop for re-balance and the problem disappeared.
