I think I'm going with a set of GRP rods for my 347 with about a .050 to .055" piston to head clearance. I guess I'd like to know how much clearance is good, and where it starts getting risky? Also, what's the best head gasket? I'll be running Brodix ST5.0 aluminum heads. Are the copper gaskets a no-no for aluminum heads?

Just from what I've read and IIRC, an assembled quench of .055 is required, as little as .045 but that's living dangerously It's hard to imagine those things grow/stretch that much ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

Alot of NMRA racers are having great success with the cometic mls (multi layer steel) head gaskets. Nascar is even using these gaskets now from what i hear. Heres a link to more info if intrested...http://www.federal-mogul.com/cda/channel/index/0,2186,2442_2891064,00.html [This message has been edited by Dynoram (edited 06-22-2004).]
