Thanks Alex, I thought it would go 1.2 under the index, but first pass it went 1.41 under. I passed the scales, hoping they wouldn't count the run and add horsepoer to me through the AHFS. They still counted the run and Saturday I had to tear down to prove I was legal, so I let it rip for the 1.45 under. It looks like my days of running in K/FIA are gone and I will be in J/FIA due to the added horsepower. Alex, does IHRA pay a low qulaifier bonus? I know you have been low qualifier at least once this year. Marty

Marty, you know what the AHFS did to me last year after Joliet so I'm am well aware of what the division 1 administrators of the HP committee do. Especially to a Ford! Sorry about your HP hit. We have actually been #1 qualifier at every IHRA event we raced so far this year. Two divisionals and one national. At the divisionals all you can expect from IHRA for a #1 qualifying effort is a pat on the back, a congratulations, and a first round bye if there are an odd amount of cars. You also can expect an unbiased tech crew and director who use common sense rather than politics when dispensing HP penalties. HP is given out when it is a class/combination runaway, not because of hard work and inovation. At a national event you will get the same things I mentioned from the divisionals, plus a very nice IHRA 2004 Tour Top Qualifier Polo shirt. It is awarded on the spot by a tech director. No money, but bragging rights, a lot of glory for the weekend, and the respect and admiration of yor peers and the sanctioning body. There are occasional tear downs as in NHRA, but that is just to keep everyone honest and the cry babies quiet. You should think about coming to Milan for the Motor City Nationals. Not far, and a good time. I doubt if IHRA will accept your NHRA HP penalty as you have not yet run with IHRA and as I said, they are practical not political. For verification e-mail Mike Baker at : [email protected] and he'll confirm it one way or another for you. Unlike NHRA, you can expect a reply within 24 hours. Congratulations again and good job. Hope to see you at an IHRA event or two. Byron and Cedar Falls divisionals are coming up soon too. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Thanks Hans for your kind words!Alex - Thanks for all of your information. And WOW, I had no idea how many low qualifiers you have had this year, way to go! I am giving some consideration to attending the Byron division race. I did buy an IHRA license this year. I wanted to attend Cordova, but time didn't permit. I hope to see you and Tony in Byron. Thanks,Marty

From the NHRA website as of this afternoon.Stock horsepower adjustment for K/FIA class Due to a 1.454-under run in K/FIA during the Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Mid-Michigan Motorplex in Stanton, Mich., NHRA has increased the following horsepower ratings: All 1985 and 1986 Ford and Mercury's equipped with the 140 cubic inch engine with a factory rating of 145, 155, or 175, by 3.25 percent, from 165 to 171. NHRA's 2004 Automatic Horsepower Factoring System outlines that any run of 1.40-second or more under the index will receive an immediate index decrease or horsepower increase. These changes are effective June 22, 2004. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Thanks Mark, I really didn't want to go that fast. The added HP will bump me out of K/FIA and I will now be in J/FIA. I saw you were on the entry list for Indy. I look forward to seeing you there. I hope all goes well for you at Topeka. Marty
