I was installing my headers today (Hooker Super Comp #6208) and the drivers side fit great but on the passenger side i got to the last two bolts and when i got one bolt in the other bolt on the other side of the primary would not line up correctly to go in or if it did start to go in it would go in crooked(this is on the primary that is removable). I slotted one of the holes a bit but that did not help. What can i do to get both bolts to go in? Should i slot the hole a little more? Also if these headers are going into a 69 cougar do i have to remove the removable primary to get the headers to go in or can i leave that primary in? Any help would be appreciated, Thank you

Ahh...Header install, one of life's joys. I have found headers go in much easier if you place them in and start every bolt by hand and leave them loose (not finger tight, just a couple of threads grabbing) until you get all the bolts in. I then tighten the bolts in steps from inside out both directions.Another header install tip is to pull the bolts out of the motor mounts and jack the engine up a couple of inches while putting them in. You would be surprised what that does for you. Rick

Well i got it figured out. I had to start the bolts on the removable primary then move forward from there. Now that my knuckles are banged up and my fingers are about to fall off i understand why everyone gripes about installing headers.

Its unfortunate that you have to lose all the skin off of your knuckles before you get it figured out and then it seems so simple. ------------------ 1968 mustang j-code sprint.13.69@101 306cu.in, stock ported heads, weiand exellerator,650 holley DP,hedman hedders, comp 292 Magnum cam,4-speed,8 inch 4.11 detroit locker http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/MembersPics/mustangboy.html
