When do I need to think about subframe connectors and which ones to use ?

I've been pushing my car aliitle more each time out. I noticed there seems to be a lot of flex from the left front tire to the right rear.

Now would be a good time to get them because your 351 has more torque and will put more twist on the subframe. C.E. bolt on is the best then weld them in. Alex says its the best fit. Bruce

Its time for the subframes and the 6 point cage...

Not ready for a 6 point rollbar yet. The kids would have a heck of time getting in and out of the car. But I think a driveshaft loop and subframes might be a good thing.

I can't get over how much more the car twists now.

I nailed it from about 5 mph and I've been playing with tire pressure and the rear shock air pressure. I think I got it to where it leaves as good as it can with the 245-60-14 BFG street tires. It was like the left front was reaching for the sky and the right rear bumper reaching for the ground .

Better get that subframe connector in quickly or you will be repairing damage.

Can I bolt in the CE connectors for now and then weld them on too later this summer or early winter. Will the bolts hold ok ?

if you can't weld them now, that's what I'd do. Feel free to stop by and I'll weld them for you. The Bay Area isn't that far away...

I used the CE bolt ons. They work great and Summit has an ok price on them. I had them welded @ my local muffler shop for $60. I wrote a install article for my club. If I find it I will post it but it is an easy job.

Has anyone ever really damaged their car because of not having frame connectors? I asked because my '67 ran low 11's with none, and no roll bar of any kind. And the floor even had rust holes and riveted patches in it!

It left straight, and I never saw any signs of stress on the body. (unless all the putty could be considered reinforcement )

Could it be that the 67 is stronger than the early cars? My 68 twists a fair amount though. Ive heard of Fox body racers wrinkling body panels but could be Urban Myths?

I have seen wrinkled panels on a 60's mustang but don't remember which year. I wouldn't take a chance, the subframe connectors are cheaper than straightening a twisted body.

I bought the ones from NPD went right on with bolts then tack them in. one thing I noticed was when I was putting in new front springs the other day, I jacked the ol 70 mach up beheind the front wheel, by the tourqe box, it picked the whole front end of the ground- evenly- and when I jack the rear right tire up the whole rear goes up . That's what I call RIDGID

Watch how ya install them... I know of a guy that installed them on his Fox. They used a 4 point lift to raise the car. After welding; the car was lowered to the ground and the doors wouldn't open..

look at my car in the gallery. I welded 2 in. stock from front to back. but had to cut some of the floor pans out to get a straight shot.

Hey Scoop, As Les touched on, I would definately take the time to rest the car in all four corners on stands or blocks and level it. If your using jack stands be careful of what you use for an adjustment spacer while leveling. And use only the frame for stand locations. May all be obvious to some but I've seen worse obvious mistakes before. Good luck and have fun.

Just FYI, welding in subframe connectors was the first thing I did to my car, even before I removed the stock A-code 289. See, my plans were to build a poundin' little stroker
I see it this way: Ford engineered and designed this car to accomodate 'x' ammount of power and torque, and if I nearly double the stock powerplant's output, I'd better improve the stuctural integrity of the car to handle it. I felt a difference in the car's rigidity after installing a 4-point roll bar as well (that was just recently).

I just didn't want to pretzel my car
