I have a question for you guys...How exactly does installing studs in the pinion support increase strength? Does bottoming out the studs in the casting stiffen the pinion support area? Or are the studs flexing less than the factory bolts? I am not doubting that it works, I am just wondering why.... BTW how much stonger is the Currie case than the late Mustang II case?[This message has been edited by Mpcoluv (edited 06-10-2004).] [This message has been edited by Mpcoluv (edited 06-10-2004).]

Studs provide better clamping force. Keeping the pinion support solidly mounted to the case makes the assembly stronger.I/we blew the pinion out the front of a 9" case when the car only ran 12s. The autopsy reveiled the pinion support bolts had loosened. They are studed now. SteveW

Also, studs are only subject to force in one direction. Bolts are subject to not only clamping force but also twisting force. Therefore a stud is under less stress for the same amount of clamping force. Now I just need to find out where to get studs from??? B-loose

I would run a tap thru and clean the hole out good.Use loctite even blue is good - turn the stud till bottom then out one turn - this prevents loading the bottom thread - you want to spread the force over all the threads. The loctite prevents the stud from turning in when you tighten the nuts. ------------------ Fred 68 Mustang 500CID/Powerglide - "No Tubs" 86 Mustang GT Cobra
