Sorry to be not much help but tomorrow I'll ask our trans guy at the shop. Also if you have room can you just weld on a thin plate to the exisiting lever, (1" wide x.125 thick)stock and relocate the hole to the top? OSH and Home Depot sell the material.See ya tomorrow! Les I could but it won't help. Level is at the wrong angle for the floor shifter to move it. I've read that I need to rotate it 180 around but I don't know how too. But I guess I'll learn. ------------------

I really should be able to help you but for the life of me I can't remember for certain. I did have mine off and replaced it with one from B+M. It pretty sure that you have to pull the pan and remove a nut and then it slides out. Before that, I think you remove a nut on the outside to get the TV lever off. It really is not hard at all and I think when you get the pan off you'll see just how to do it. I don't think you can just flip the lever though. That's why B+M sell the one they do. I think all column shift trannys have the lever on top and the floor shift models, like a mustang, have them on the bottom. I'll see if I can dig up my B+M instructions.HTH, B-loose

I just installed my AOD and never found a good link or information on how to do this. That being said I did do mine and after you have the pan off look at the shaft lever and you will see a large jam nut that you will have to loosen, I think it is a 21mm. On mine I did not have to take it completely off, just loosen it enough so that the lever on the inside that has notches for each gear position, can be moved so that you can clear it and rotate the arm 180 degrees and tighten the nut making sure that the shift lever clicks through its positions. I am sorry if this might sound confusing but it is harder to describe than do. Let me know if I can help more. ------------------ 69 393W Sportsroof Deluxe

Yes and No, I'll print these out and look them over once I get the pan off. Maybe when I see the part I'll know what to do. Good thing it's not my trans. We are running out of time to get this project on the road before Hot August Nights. We did get his new MT 29x18x15 tires on the new 15x15 rimes. Those tires look so cool. I might have to put them on my 65 just for a few pictures. ------------------

I almost the same problem now. My AOD trans crapped out, and I have a new built one I just installed. Seems that the new one has the wrong lever on it. Mine takes the same as a Mustang, with a hole in the end of the lever with flats on the sides, for the shift cable stud to mount to. The new trans has one with a pin sticking out. I called them, and they sent me the correct lever. Looking at the service manual, I need to remove the retaining pin from the trans housing, then remove the above mentioned nut from the end of the shift shaft. My question is, is there a special way to get this roll pin out? It does not stick out very far, and vise grips are not doing it. The pin does not show in the picture I found, but it is located at "C" ------------------ 1993 Tbird 393 stroker, 3500 RPM converter http://www.qsl.net/wd4ngb/birdwork.htm

Well, I can now say first hand how to rotate the shift lever. It is easy compared to switching it. To rotate it, the hard part is removing the roll pin that goes from the bottom of the housing, then through the side of the recess in the shift arm shaft. This can be a real PITA! On mine, the pin was in all the way, and not enough to grap onto. Tried small easy out, screwing a small sheet metal screw into it, to give me some thing to grip, but they did not do it. As a last resort, I had to use a small center punch, then a small drill, then larger one to drill on the sides of it, to cut away some of the case to allow me to grab the #@+*& roll pin. Once it was out, rotating the lever would be only a matter of loosing the 21 mm nut just enough to allow it to rotate it, then tighten it back and reinstall the pin. Done. Now when replacing the lever with a different one is a REAL PITA. The throttle valve stuff, the park lever rod all came loose, and gave me fits for about 3 hours. It is now back together... ------------------ 1993 Tbird 393 stroker, 3500 RPM converter http://www.qsl.net/wd4ngb/birdwork.htm

You may be able to loosen the 21 mm nut, then move the inner shift piece (rooster cone) off the outer shaft, then turn the shaft 180 degrees to line up the flats on the sides, then retighten. The shaft has flat spots on the sides that mesh with the flats on the rooster cone. You would only need to slide the rooster cone back about a 1/8-1/4 of a inch. Good luck.------------------ 1993 Tbird 393 stroker, 3500 RPM converter http://www.qsl.net/wd4ngb/birdwork.htm
