Well, the next problem with my motor is that the installed height for my springs is 1.800-1.825, and my installed height with retainers and locks is 1.900, so I need .075-.100 spring shims, or stack them but the problem is my spring seats have been cut flat and the valve guide is only .500, so where can I find a spring shim that is only .500 or close in the the i.d., and 1.450 or more on the o.d. My springs are a dual, they have .700 i.d. on the inner and a 1.450 o.d. on the outer. So that's what they need to fit, anyone have a solution, need one fast. I want to abuse the hell out of this thing for all the trouble its caused me! One more thing, only springs there is a dampner, but was told to take it out as I don't need one in my application, is that true or b.s.? What is the purpose of the dampner anyway?------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 306 with 600 holley, Weiand Stealth intake, headers, Comp cam, harland sharp roller rockers, kb pistons, 10.3:1 compression ratio, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. Is there still a step (like .630") underneath the valve seal or is it cut all the way down?....most cutters leave a small step or the ones i have used...http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog/HTML/350.asp http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog/HTML/355.asp http://www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog/HTML/356.asp

The dampner is there to dampen harmonic vibrations that will occur at certain rpm ranges. Some people don't like them because they cause some wear on the springs but that is just the result of doing the job they were designed for. I would leave them in.You should be able to buy the correct hardened shims at any machine shop that does performance head work. If you wan't to stock some Manley sells them. I think Goodson also sells them but am not sure. You can go to Goodsons web site to see. http://www.goodson.com/ John [This message has been edited by JCQuinn@work (edited 06-03-2004).]
