can i or how can i use a 1986 5.0 distributor
in a 1983 5.0. the 86 has the ignition mod in it with the big plug and the 83 has 2 or 3 wires coming out of it.

No, you cannnot use the 86 distributor in the 83 car.
The early car is a Dura-Spark II and the 86 is a computer controlled EEEC IV system.
