The Howe Radiator from Crites is awesome. The problem I have now (if it is a problem) is the car runs to cool now. What is the optimum temp for the car to run when racing. Right now I have a 160* tstat and when going down the road it just barely gets to 150*. I'm thinking I should go to a 170* tstat now. Or should I leave it run cool?

Thanks,

Can leave the fan turned off longer so to let it heat up alittle more. For every day driving I think 170-180 would be better.

That's without the fan running!

What is it -20 there today.

Your right thats a great problem to have.

BTW, I think 160 would be a great temp for racing.

My other ride has that problem too. I run a 160 stat in it and it stays at 160. W/o a stat I couldn't keep it over 130 at idle with the fan on low.

Good to hear thats working well for you Bloose,
I bit the bullit and ordered a direct fit griffin HP series for mine(up to 600hp), should be here in a day or 2. I hope to have the same problem you do
Got a new dual fan setup coming from ramchargers as well.

I'm sure you will. I wish I would have bit the bullit a long time ago. I have a single fan from Summit and it seems to work well. We'll see how it goes when things heat up here. I'm not anticipating any problem though.

I'd like to see some pics of you Griffin when you get it installed.

I believe their HP series come with two row cores, and each row has 1-1/4" tubes. Plus, the fins are very dense. It takes a powerful fan to draw air through these. (I have one) So don't skimp.

Derale makes good fans. I use the #16926, which fits 65-66 mustangs perfectly. It's a beast! They also sell relay setups that have adjustable temperature probes that allow you to turn the fan on at whatever temp you want. These kits also have a 'bypass' wire that turns the fan on. It can be hooked up to turn on when the AC is switched on, or hooked to a toggle switch. (override)

See their stuff at www.derale.com

Good Luck!

I'm replacing a brass 4 core big block torino radiator along with 2-12" derales with the griffin radiator and the ramchargers dual fan setup. The ramcharger setup covers the entire radiator unlike my 2-12" derales, plus they pull more cfm then the 2 12's combined, should be good.
