Well, a couple questions about a 460.

A 460 bored .030 over is 473.8 ci right?

Anyway, what carb recommendation would y'all make? It has a small Holley w/ electric choke on it right now. It also has a Performer 460 intake. Any good? Or should I look for a different intake?

Does anyone make headers to fit in a 68 F-100 with a 460 and c6?

Sorry for all the questions. This big block is giving me the go fast bug bad.

A .030" over 460 is a 466 cid.

Check out this link: http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/displacement_calculator.html

Carb/Intake depends on what you want to do, and what you have - cam, converter gears etc. Smaller most of the time is better. For street concentrate on torque - which the 460 has lots of! RPM kills the stock rods.

For the headers try posting in the truck forum.

The progression of the disease went like this for me over several years.

302, then 351W, then 383W, then 557 BBF.

It's an addiction.

The engine compartments of F-100's from 1966 through 1979 are the same. Headers for a 1973 - 1979 460 should fit. My '78 has Casler headers.

Here is some links:

Important consideration is deck:
68-70: 10.300
70 1/2 10.310
72 -up 10.322

The reason for watching Deck is valve train differences. The early heads C8-D0 had stud mounted Rockers and the D3 heads had Rocker fulcrum (sled) type. Stay away form the D2 heads because open chamber design and deadnation problems. There was also a Police Interecpter D2 head but I still wouldn't suggest them.

Of all of the heads to use I'd suggest the D0VE-C. The exhaust port is easier to clean up and you can install Chevy rocker studs. You must machine only the thickness for guide plates off the stud mounting surface. Ford suggests 1/4 inch but that is excessive. Harland Sharp makes a "Ford" BB rocker. Don't be fooled into a Chevy rockers or you'll find your roller tip not stayiing centered on the valve tip.

As far a block goes you'll see as much as .012 from front to back. This is normal for stock blocks. If you deck the block, some run the piston out of the block as much as .005. The reason is to give as much quench to the combustion chamber as possible. A word of caution, rods will streach at 6K rpm. On the piston side of the house not all pistons are created equal. Sealed Power pistons have a slightly taller area above the top ring land. One time I measured a set of cast pistons and had each of them check different.

If you have a AUTOZONE near you they can supply you with C8 and sometimes D0. So if you have D3's and want early heads, buy the early heads ($125 ea) and later return your D3 cores. They don't check casting #.

Well I guess that all for now,
Les
