I put a new Ford mini hi torque starter in. It turns over great, fits awesome. But it runs for about a second after I release the key.It does disengage as soon as I release the key.
I've read where others have had this happen too. Not sure if it's something to worry about or live with ?

You have the starter battery cable hooked to the switched side of the solenoid mounted on your fender.
THe battery terminal on the starter has to go directly to battery. Use the remote solenoid to turn on the solenoid on the starter. the runon will go away.

With the mini starter, you should have gotten a wire with 2 loops and instruction sheet on how to install that 1 wire. If you didnt, let me know and I'll look for our sheet and see if we cant get the instructions posted.

Tony, Bill over at Medic One here in Reno sold me the unit and set it up so the starter will work as a one wire. Now it's running on now every time I start it.

Very timely post. I also tried to figure this out last night and the instructions/picture is less than clear to me. I have a set of wires that came in the box, generic red/black loops on each end in a protective housing. Anyone who can offer clear battery/fendersolenoid/starter wiring instructions I'd appreciate it.

thanks,
don

Is that mini starter diagram for all mini starters? I bought mine last month the guy said to make a jumper wire and jump the little terminal with the big one down at the starter and keep the factory wires in the stock location on the fender solinoid.

Ron,

It isn't hot all the time. The new starter has a solenoid built into it. Just like the solenoid on your inner fender. The 12 ga wire energizes the starter's solenoid when you turn the key.

Glad to help!

The mini's are pretty neat in my book - less weight, more space, more power, not to mention it "sounds cool". I did mine this past winter, and have "converted" 5 other people since then.

It sure does leave a lot more room.
The starter seems to work better with the new wiring too? or maybe it's me.
It does have a different sound.

Dubz yeah it's a Ford mini hi torque starter.
