JR. ( Billy ) has started hangin out in the chat rooms at the 5.0 site. I was sorta glad at first until his ego showed up. He really thinks he is all that. I guess he has done everything he said he would. Like Kid Rock says it aint braggin if you can back it up... but it sure does rub you the wrong way. Maybe I'm just green with Envy? LOL yeah prolly so.

not a glidden fan. tried to get an autograph in memphis 1993 or 94 and got the blow off. also had a friend in the marines who went to school with him and lived close to the gliddens, said they were asses in real life. i think they live somewhere around indy. if you talk to him, ask him what he thinks about the turbo cars and if they look good from the back. see it aint good enough to just be quick, you dont crap on others no matter how big you get. ------------------ 306, 4speed, 4.11's....best 1/8 mile 7.58 at 92mph with 1.72 60ft. I know nothing about the Gliddens, but many highly focused/driven people are not "Nice Guys". Jack Roush and Grumpy Jenkins are other examples. In fact Earnhardt Sr. once said that Davey Allison was the nicest guy when away from the track, but a real agressive hard nosed guy at the track (not just in the car). Always remember that when you approach someone, be aware of what they are doing. If a famous racer is trying to change a burned piston when you ask for an autograph, you might not get a frendly greeting.

When Bob Glidden came to the races in Denver I would always go over to his trailer hoping to talk to him but he was always working on the car so I never bothered him. One of my friends happened to catch him when he was done working for the day and had a real nice chat with him. I second the idea that guys driven to win are too intense to enjoy being interrupted during working hours and often are percieved as jerks when they are interupted. Just leave them alone or go talk to some racer who is sitting in his lawn chair. They will be glad to talk.A couple of years ago Billy was at Bandimere's on All Ford Day. He was running as a part of a booked in show and was going to make three runs against another pro 5.0 Ford. He was not too busy because it was not a real race and seemed to spend a lot of time talking to the fans. John

A few years ago I was in Indy on business. I had some time to kill, so I stopped at his shop in Whiteland. Out in the parking lot I talked to a kid who's BB Monte Carlo they had just spent an all-nighter on. Billy was fishing over in the pond next to the shop, with his parrot perched on his shoulder. Billy never looked over, and the kid said he was taking a break and didn't want disturbed. Meanwhile Billy's girlfriend came over and shut the garage door in front of us! I was a little p.o.'d, but the kid was pretty cool to talk to, and I can appreciate that was a bad time to chat with Mr. Glidden

I met Davy at Sears Point after cousin Clifford died. The crew was setting up Clifford Bush car for Davy to drive. I'd say Davy was 5'6 128 lbs. My wife my son and I talked with Davy for about a half hour. He signed my Sears Point race book. I asked Davy about shift point and he said "What tach, I drive by the seat of my pants!" We all laughed, extremly nice person. Shame he had to die. I'll never forget him. I won't sell is autograph either. Les ------------------ http://www.geocities.com/wildfire1mustang/

Davey was (still is) my favorite NASCAR driver. And since his death, I still haven't found a current driver that I would call my "favorite."
