getting ready to fire up the 408w stroker, almost 1 yr thats its been done, now i have been turing it over from time to time because i didnt want it sitting to long, turing on the key it letting it turn over but i hope i didnt turn it over to much because of the new bearings, should i just leave it alone untill its ready to fire and get the oil pressure up, i have been turning it over 1 time a month or less, just worried its been sitting to long thanks.

Pull the distributor and prime the oil pump before cranking it over any more than it already has been. Inexpensive priming tools are avaialable at Summit, Jegs, or any speed shop. I just use a long 1/4" extension with a 1/4" socket glued on the end; seat the socket on the oil pump driveshaft and spin it counter-clockwise until you feel the oil pump load up. Rotate the motor 1/4 turn, spin the pump some more, another 1/4 turn, more pump, ect. Re-time the dist, prime the carb with fuel, and let 'er rip

I'd also manually bathe the valvetrain with an oil can, to make sure all rocker arms and valvestems are fully coated prior to initial fire-up

thumper is dead on with a zero!! (drag racing term) with emphathis on the glueing the socket to the extention. and even then i think i would put a little electral tape on it for insurance. dont worry, you will know when it is primed, it will lock down a 1/4 in. drill!!!

No the oil pump only works when the motor is running. And you want the oil to have worked it's through the motor before turning the key. That way everything is nice and lubed less friction = longer life.
