Does anyone know how much the gearing diffrence is between a c6 and a c4. I have a C-6 now and some one told me if i put in my C-4 it would turn less rpm's.

High gear is still 1-1 ratio. And there isn't much difference (not enough to worry about) in low gear between them either. A c4 does rob less power from the rear wheels, making the car faster with no other changes. Plus it's substantially lighter, and that also helps in acceleration.

I am racing on a 1/4 mile paved ovel. I am just starting so i don't know much about it yet. I have a 351M and 273 gears. In 1st it has to many rpm's and not enough in 2nd. I will put in the c-4 but i think now i need to change the gears. They say i should run in 2nd. What do you think?

Unless your rules dictate an auto trans, you would be better off with a 3 speed manual trans with 2nd gear removed. Use first to get rolling, and high for racing. But to do that on that short track, you would have to gear the heck out of it. Probably end up with a 5.86, 6.0 or 6.20 gear.I'm going to assume you will need to change rear gears to get the rpm you desire. What are the rules of your class? And what kind of car are you racing?

I agree with Kid on trans and gear. We ran 3/8 dirt and had 6:10 rear. In my opinion I would find a different engine. I would avoid the 351M because of weight if you can. We ran a 351M with a 400 crank. I also had a special cam made with Chevy Circle track specs. I exhaust ported the heads myself, they are very restrictive. You can raise the roof pretty high. It's been awhile but I did have some pretty big valve put in the heads. They almost touch. I ground off all of the casting numbers panited the aftermarket 4bbl intake the same color as the engine so the tech guy didn't know. They thought it was a 351C, at least that is what I told them. I think you'll get more power from a stroke SM Blk and have less weight over the front end. Well see ya! Les Edit: Also the scatter sheild for a BBF fits the 351M but it is "expensive," I got ours from e-bay and paid somewhat less. ------------------ http://www.geocities.com/wildfire1mustang/ [This message has been edited by wildfire466 (edited 04-28-2004).]

I'm racing a 78 T-bird. I'm only going to change the gears. The motor is new with about a 500 lift cam. It has the power i want for now. What would you all sugest for a rear gear. I have been racing in 1st and am in the low 16's. I need to be in the low 15's. It is close just needs a little less rpm's. I would also like to run 2nd.
