Look in the yellow pages for a welding supply company. They stock welding cable and the terminals for it. In the north bay, try West Coast Welders.SteveW

thanks Steve. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the numbers. Is 1/0 0 guage?I'd prefer to just buy the thing already with the ends, looks like summit has 1/0 guage. But i want to make sure i get the right cable.

Yes, 1/0 is one O gauge, 2/0 is 00 gauge, 3/0 is 000 gauge etc. 1 gauge is just 1 gauge. SteveW

Welding cable is the best quality. It has more strands in it and can carry a little more current at less resistance than other stranded wire.SteveW

One more question. Painless has a kit that says its 1 gauge. How does this compare to 1/0? Is it the same? I would assume its better quality then summits 1 gauge kit. I'd rather order from summit if at all possible. thanks again for your help

This is one thing where you get what you pay for.The stuff that Summit sells is so stiff it's like bending conduit. The welding cable is much higher quality and is much more flexible (higher strand count), almost like cooked spaghetti. I'd definitely buy from McMaster or locate a welding supply house in your area and you can then get the cable and the lugs. They may have a lugging to you can borrow after you get your lengths figured out. The cables in my car are 1/0 welding cable with heat shrink sealing the ends. Made them myself with parts from McMaster. [This message has been edited by Hemikiller (edited 04-29-2004).]

Hemikiller, Nice work on the motor and engine bay.I got a multi strand 1/0 or one O gauge wire from Napa, they cut it to any length and even will put the lugs on for you. I took the wire home cut it to fit came back to the store, they cripped the lugs on for me with heat shirk ends. It didn't cost to much either. ------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. thanks for the advise. I still haven't decided yet, but I figure I should get the 1/0. Jegs has 1 gauge thats close i guess but still not 1/0?? I'm gonna check with NAPA see what they have, I don't mind spending the money, i just want the ends to be done right. Madelectric.com can make em for me but its 3.75 a foot! Yikes! Heres the description of Jegs #1 cables: This high quality cable kit provides maximum charging efficiency. The kit includes 20-ft of Positive #1 gauge cable, that's an additional 5-ft of cable compared to other kits. Three feet of Negative #1 gauge cable. Cable is 133 strand #0243 copper, shielded cable for up to 250-amps.[This message has been edited by torino420 (edited 04-29-2004).]

Welp, I ordered that parts from mcmaster. This high flex cable is nice, very flexible. To my suprise it's not that thick, I've got a small piece of 2/0 and the 2/0 is thicker. Maybe its the jacket. I got the "screw on" lugs, hope thats ok. Gonna move the battery this weekend.------------------ 69 Torino GT Hardtop 420" Windsor

Check Home Depot or Lowes. They have some but not necessarily 1.0. They should be cheaper than Mmaster or a normal welding supplier.

Tractor Supply has a great selection of extra long standard heavy duty battery cables.
