Put my motor in this weekend and learned that my stealth intake now makes my hood useless unless I want to run without an aircleaner all the time. Kind of a bumber as I really like the turn single hood. What are the good/bad fiberglass hood options? I've read about people having to trim to make them fit and would like to buy something that fits from the get go.thanks, don ------------------ 68 Mustang Coupe New engine

Ya know...SALEEN made special mounts for its' 351W MUSTANG that would lower the engine. I wonder if anyone has tried to adapt them to an earlier chassis? Also vendors such as MOROSO offer drop air cleaners. Maybe one of these two options would allow you to keep the OEM hood? Or, if you have to go FG, maybe a copy of the 67 SHELBY hood and do a little fabricating to mount those turn signal lamps?

I spoke to a guy at the mustang show in Augusta last year, he was making some really nice 67 shelby style hoods for 67/68 mustangs. They were dang near perfect, minimal prep work to be ready to paint. I got his card, if you want the # I'll dig it out for you. Hood was $300.------------------ Stuart MCA #48902 M&M #1091 67 stang 5 speed, 351W, Edelbrock Performer RPM package my photo page

I have a 351 in mmy 67 convrt using an rpm which is a hair taller than the stealth, get a 14"drop base air cleaner and a k&n 2 3/8 air filter, i had to add a holley plastic 1/2 inch spacer under the air cleaner. I also have on the car now a k&n 12 x 2 1/2 air cleaner that also fits. I have run holley, edelbrock and demons with no clearance problems. If your considering efi like holley projection tbi will give you almost an inch more clearnce, I have run them all. The right air cleaner is way cheaper than a hood.

Thanks for the replies, I'd much rather keep the hood. How much heigth does a drop air cleaner add above the carb? I have about 1.25" of height available.- Edit Just looked up the K&N option and it requires 2.5" of space above carb flange. My 1.25" measurement was from the top of the mounting post so hopefully it will work. Maybe the reason I'm got the issue is the turn single hood reduces clearance. thanks, don [This message has been edited by mainer (edited 04-29-2004).]

Do you have 1.25" above the carb flange or above the breather tubes? If you have that much space above the tubes, then you should have room for any standard 13"-14" drop base as long as it clears the dist cap. I used one before I put a scoop on. I had to make some dents where the baseplate rubbed on the float adjusters on a 14" Summit drop base, but other than that, it fit pretty good. The height of the filter used will effect the overall hood clearance. ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank, rods and girdle, TFS alum. heads, Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 268 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)daily driver! I wouldn't go any shorter than a 3" it will restrict airflow to carb because of the drop base. I used a shelby style hood 67 type which has the scoop farther back on the hood than the 68 shelby style scooped hood. Check with fred Glazier at Glaziers Mustang barn for the best fiberglass if you want to go that route. (www.mustangbarn.com) He gets them from the original manufacter of the Gone in 60 sec movie car pieces (Eleanor) he didn't desing that ugly hood though! His glass is burgundy gelcoat most other are white or black or grey. I think Branda sells his glass also.------------------ 67 Mustang F/B 302 GT-40X FMS Crate engine RPM Air Gap 600 Holley Dynomax ceramic coated headers T5, cable clutch conversion Flowmasters X Pipe 3.89 equa loc 9".
