Anyone removed the top O'ring seal and mod the fluid return hole?

Looking for help on this mod or is it worth while doing?

Thanks,
Les

I've have done it on a few R servos. It does work well, but I'm not sure it's nessessary. It should work well in stock form too. Servos and intermesdiate bands are rearly a failure on C4s. Typically the direct clutches will give out first.

I see it's easy to remove the oring, but how is the case pluged and what has to be done to the piston to relieve the oil? I think it needs a notch but don't know where or how?

Thanks,
Les

You will remove the small o-ring and then cut or grind a notch in 3 places around that o-ring groove so fluid can pass around the piston easily. If you do this, keep in mind that you can not return it to original again. Next, there is a oil return hole in the trans case. It is about 5/16" diameter or a bit bigger. Tap it for a 1/8 pipe thread and plug it with a allen socket pipe plug. Next, I take an 8/32 tap and thread the small bleed hole in the servo cover. Put a small 8/32 set screw in the hole with locktite to seal it. This will help keep the fluid pressure from the servo gasket. That's it. This mod does work and I have had no problems with mine, but as I said before, it's really not nessessary for good performance if you have a good servo anyway. Some trans manufacturers do the mod and some don't.
