I'm havin' trouble finding an aluminum water pump for my engine, all the ones i'm finding are cast iron. Does anyone know what year/make car I need to be asking the parts guy for to get one? And its for a V drive. Thanks!

Sorry, its a 65 non hipo. I'm dealin' with an 87 engine, but went V groove instead. Just was lookin' for a cheap aluminum water pump instead of the factory cast iron. And I know the 87 had an aluminum but was reverse rotation due to serpentine setup.

Mooney, try either Summit or Jegs. They both list aluminum pumps. In fact, I had ordered the high flow pump in the Jeg's brand and even though it was listed as cast iron, it came in aluminum. I called four times and they sent out pumps two other times and they evidently are coming in aluminum for the same price as the cast iron, $79. Charlie

Summit and Jegs I gotta wait for shipping, which wasn't what I wanted to do. I know Mustangs Unlimited right here in town has an aluminum one for 36.99 but it's still about an hour drive out that way, and all the parts stores are telling me they only have cast iron. And I was hoping there was a later model car that had an aluminum water pump that'd bolt right up that I could pick up here at one of the local parts stores. Thanks though, I might just have to drive out to M.U. and get that one. Thanks again! Luke

See if the local parts store can interchange Motorcraft part number PW-114. That is an original 289 Hipo aluminum water pump. Most parts stores offer them in new or rebuilt.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Thanks Alex, I appreciate it. But I called around and none of them carried it; they said they didn't even have the part number in their computers.

Another suggestion. Go see the parts monkey at your local Auto Zomby, err Auto Zone. Ask to order one of their High Performance aluminum water pumps for a 69 Mustang with a 351W. They can get it for you by the next day. This IS the SAME pump that Milodon sells under their name brand in Summit and Jegs. I have done a side by side comparison with one still in the Milodon box.I had one on my 69 and a buddy has one on his tube chassis drag Maverick. Work great, mine was still going fine after 6 years when I sold the car. Costs about $73, about the same as mail order, but you can have it the next day and most likely you have one of these stores nearby. I don't normally go to them, but they have a few hidden gems in their computers. You can see it inthe engine pic here: https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/DavidCole.html Later, David Cole [This message has been edited by Dave_C (edited 04-12-2004).]

depends what year timing cover you use. 65 and earlier all came aluminum, the 66 to early 80's were iron but many stock replacement new pumps are aluminum, mid 80's and newer are all aluminum. The 83 T Bird 302 used an aluminum V belt water pump.

do the alum pumps allow better cooling since they the alum will dissipate heat better, or is it strictly a weight advantage?
