Anyone have any ideas on which header gaskets actually work? I have tried standard Mr. Gasket, Percys seal 4 good, and now Mr. Gasket copper. They all have leaked. When I pull the headers and look at the gaskets (at the head) you can see they all leak. I am thinking about the Earls gaskets to see if they work. Anyone have any secrets or trick that work? I have Headman Headers. I would go to Hooker but I had to do some work to these headers to make them fit and do not cherish the idea of doing it again.TIA, B-loose

Are you retorqueing the bolts three times? This proceedure always works for me. I drive the car to operating temps. Let her sit and cool overnight. Retorque the bolts. I do this three times. I have header and collector gaskets on my bronco that are 5 years old and have yet to leak after doing this. I used Mr.Gaskets ultraseals.

I've had headers over the years that did that. I have put 2 gaskets on each one with pretty good results. That makes for more retightening but once they are tight, they seal well.I agree that the flanges might be uneven and could use milling. Some headers don't fit the gaskets real well, also. On KVs Super Comps the gaskets never did fit right so we used red silicone to seal them and that worked also. ------------------ 63 Falcon 377 Cleveland stroker Flying Toilet alchohol injection. 6.19 @ 110 MPH 1/8 mile 2002 Ranger FX4 daily driver 2000 F350 PSD Crew cab dually - Like commuting in a B52!! 98 US Cargo Phantom II 28'

I'm going to try and even out the flanges. They are WAY off. Milling is a bit of a problem because they are a PITA to chuck in the mill. I'm going to try using a large disc sander. I doubt I can make them worse. I'll also order up the Mr. Gasket Ultra's.Thanks, B-loose [This message has been edited by Bloose (edited 04-07-2004).]
