C8ME normally designates a big car like a Grand Marquis. C =60's 8 = 1968 M = body designation E= this 1 I dont know. If it was a Y I could tell you it helps designate the part number vs the engineering number. Im guessing its either an FE block or a 429-460 type block.

I Should have paid more attention to what I Was typing. The early model M designation may have been for a Comet or Fairlane and then changed to Grand Marquis later on. Either way, its a 1968 model Block. And since you asked what FE block, Id have to say its an FE block, not a 429-460 type. Dont mind me, My mind is elsewhere.------------------ Anatol (Tony) Denysenko MoneyMaker Racing Lyons Il Crew Chief for the 2003 IHRA Div 5 SuperStock Divisional Champion! C8ME is a 1968 casting. 428FE. It may be a CJ. You would have to look for further markings.C=1960's 8=1968 M=Mercury E=Engine (Engineering and/or casting I.D. no.)

It would have to one or the other. The cylinder barrel casting would be different between a 390 or 428.
