I realize this is a mild intake. My next motor for my 66 is going to be a .040 over 302 with GT40P heads and Performer cam, intake and carb along with MAC longtube headers and a T5. I'm hoping/planning on making about 250 flywheel hp but lots of street torque!

At times I've thought about going up slightly on the cam and a Performer RPM. I was just wondering how fast someone has gone with a Performer 289 and what was your combo? How fast do you think I'll go with my combo. Oh, I plan on 3.25's. The T5 is a 3.35 1st gear. Thanks.

Huskihano, it sounds like your combination is very close to my 302 Fairmonts. I origionaly rebuilt the engine totally stock, but later started modifying it. It is a .040" 302 78 block with flatop pistons, a pair of stock 69 351W heads that I did a quicky exh. port lump clean up on, retaining the stock 351W 1.84I,1.54E valve sizes, a "Blue Racer" hyd. cam .445,.472" lift, 204,[email protected], a Performer 289 with a 550 cfm Holley 4 barrel from a 76 Ford 390 PU engine.I have Heddman 1 1/2" long tube headers, with stock 88 Mustang 5.0 LX mufflers & pipes (no cats). With a 3.35 1rst gear T5, & 3.55`s in the 8.8, weighing 3300 lbs with me in it, it has gone mid 13`s@101 mph thru the mufflers on skinny 14" whitewalls, with a pair of 8 1/2x26-15 MT slicks it runs low 13`s, and with the slicks, open headers, & beating the tar out of it, has gone high 12`s@ 105mph.I use the stock cast iron rail rockers, never rev it over 5500 rpm, & it has been like this for 7 or 8 years now, having served most of that time as my only everyday street car. It`s pretty mild, but does the job just fine.

Roy, that's impresive! Yeah, I don't plan on spinning it faster then 5,500 rpm either. I don't see the need to. How's 1st gear with the 3.55's?

my mostly stock 289 with 2.79 rear gears (C4 tranny) runs 15.8, car has power steering too.

Dual exh, stock cam, stock heads, stock exh manifolds, skinny 14 inch tires. 4 barrel edl 600 carb, and performer intake. Planning headers this year and power steering removal.

i think my car ran high 8's with stock cam, stock heads, and performer intake, but i think i had radials back then. it picked up a bunch with the rpm intake and an e-303 cam, i think it was around 3 tenths. then i got et streets and went even quicker. ended up high 7's before further improvements.

The 3.55`s work fine with the 3.35 1rst gear, in fact, if I was to do it over, I`d likely go with 3.73`s.With the 26" slicks, I`d normally launch between 3200-3500 rpm, although higher launches did equal quicker ET`s, one particular 4800 rpm clutch dump also equaled a snapped factory 28 spline 8.8 axle. With the skinny street radials, driving out just off idle gave the best numbers. The best 60 foot with the 205 70R14`s was 2.03, with the 3200-3500 launches on slicks, it normally went mid to low 1.8`s, best of 1.76 leaving at 4200-4800 rpm.

Thanks Roy. What year T5? It seems to be holding up with the slicks and clutch dump! I'll be using a T5 out of a '97 V6 Mustang. I'm swapping out the inputshaft to the shorter one. Despite what the charts saying that it's 265 ftlb rated, I've done a little snooping and found out that these are really 300 ftlb rated V8 T5's!

The T5 in my Fairmont is the "so-so" 1986 version, which I believe is rated at 265 Ft-Lbs, but so far has worked fine.
