I have a Holley 450 Mech. secondary carb ,with less than 2,000 miles on it since I bought it,and another one to go on my Tunnel ram set up last year. I kept noticing fuel stains on the intake but it took me a while to track down the source.
It turns out that the thottle shaft is leaking on the opposite side of the carb from the throttle linkage. I can wiggle the tip of the throttle shaft on the leaking carb ,but the other carbs shaft is tight and doesnt leak. What do you all think I should do? I`ve rebuilt many Holleys ,but never had to mess with the Throttle shafts before.
I believe this carb was like this out of the box, but I don`t think Holley will help me out sisnce I bought the carbs last year.

If you bought the carbs new and still have the warrantee cards that came with them, Holley will honor the warrantee. They are very good about that kind of stuff.
Just another reason I endorse them over some of the other brands.
The shaft is not the problem, it's the throttle body.

Well,I spoke to a Holley Tech guy on the phone. He said "If gas is leaking out of the throttle shaft it means gas is pouring on it from above. You probably have a needle and seat problem." and "It`s normal for the throttle shaft to have some play in it when you wiggle it with your fingers." I told him that my back carb throttle shaft would`nt move nearly as much as the front one did,and he said" Well all of them have some play in them altho some are more than others, its not a critical tolorance there. I would swap the needle and seats from the front carb and back carb ,and see if the problem moves to the back carb...if it does replace That needle and seat." So thats what I`m gonna try.

I've had that problem before. The float level was too high. Lowered the float, no more leak. RAY

Thanks alot for the complements Gunrocker.
Ray ,I`ll Take a look at my float bowl levels before I try anything else. The last time I set it,it was right at the bottom of the sight hole opening, so if you rocked the car it would flow out. Thanks for everyones input on this.
