What the best spark plugs for my new 2.02 RPM heads #60259.
These will be on the 351w motor.

Also do all of you use some kind of coating on the treads to keep them from meesing up the heads ?

Ron,

Autolite 3924, with some anti-sieze on the threads. When's it going to be ready?

Should be ready in 2 weeks. He's got all the parts in, and started the machine work.
I can't wait to drive it.

Ron,

Yes smaller dia. longer threads too. You'll be using a "modern" 5/8" plug socket too.

Steve, thats good maybe they will be alittle less of a pain to change.

So is that the best plug to use, or the one to start with.

That's the standard heat range regular plug Ron. Later you can try one step colder, 3923 or even the racing plug 3923R which is a side gap plug. But for your relatively mild 351w the 3924 should be ok.

Key word is relatively.
It's not 12+-1 compression and turning 7,000+ rpms.

Paul, Yup I can't wait getting alittle worried that'll it will all work out. And you all will be the second to know.

Sodi, Good luck with your project. It's kinda scary to lay all the money down. Well it's a lot of money to me. So I hope it lasts and runs great too. And please call me Ron or SCOOP.

Steve I was J/K with you

"Modern" 5/8" plug socket. LOL

I bought Edelbrock FE heads and they use those newfangled little plugs. I have a 5/8" plug socket i've hardly ever had to use.

Ron,

3926s would be a "hot" plug. I've never heard of that recomendation. Always heard 3924s for all the E'heads even my 440 e-heads use 3924. Since 3923s are colder, and Alex has recomended 3923R plugs for our 12-1 engine I'm guessing they aren't for you. I haven't bought any "R" plugs yet, just 3923s so far. I've heard good things about the side gapped R (racing) plugs and that you don't change their gap. We just don't worry about chasing every h.p. like Alex does. If Mel's '66 was Alex's it'd be running 9's.

Hey Chip,

Sorry but,

I don't know what a 5224 plug is, and I've never tried side gapping them.

If you're talking about a 3924 and modifying it to a side gap you are in my "uncharted waters". If your heads take a 39-- series Autolite plug, try a 3923R.

And yes the 3923 is colder than a 3924 with or w/o the R. Hope this helps, just unsure of what plugs your heads take.

heck steve, i honestly dont know. i just stuck in what afr told me to. i called autolite to see if afr was correct and they recomended the same plug before i told them thats what afr said. i can tell you that side gapping the ones i got, the car did pick up a tiny but noticable amount. sometimes its funny the to see the absolute tricks not work and the questionable ones like sidegapping work. there are a few things like this that seemed to help my car and you just are totally suprised, but happy. then you do that thing that cost you a wad, but you knew was the ace, and nadda.
