Can you tell me if an 8 inch tube is a 3 inch tube? I dont have the car here in front of me to check. I thought they were, but Im not sure.

Nope, depends which year. Most are 2 3/4" but the 66 and older Mustang and Falcon necks down to 2 3/8" (as i recall) where the U-bolts sit.
