Since I'm assembling my Fairlane motor, after finally deciding on what to buy for the thing, I got to thinking about a plate nitrous kit and being able to go really fast. To see what I'm building, look at my sig.

To start, I went back and read the archives- lots of great information. I saved the stuff on how to tune a nitrous system that Mike put up a couple of times (really helpful info- thanks Mike!). So here are my questions that I didn't see answered, or I missed:

-How consistent can you be with a nitrous system? I know a bottle warmer will be necessary to keep the pressure constant. Is nitrous OK for bracket racing?

-My fuel system will consist of a Carter mech. fuel pump feeding the carb, and a Holley Blue feeding the nitrous system. Hows that sound?

-For ignition, I have a locked Duraspark distributor, 6AL, and an MSD timing control box, which has a timing retard chip that is switch activated. This should be ok?

-Based on my combo and the above fuel and ignition systems, what shot can I handle? I am looking at the NOS Cheater system (150-250) and the Edelbrock Performer RPM system (100-250). I really haven't looked at NX or Nitrous Works. Can I use a 250 shot?

Thanks!

It's just one more variable to account for. Of course, the fewer things there are to account for, the more consistent the car will be. I've gone through several rounds racing nostalgia 'no box' classes at the Ford races using nitrous and a 4-speed... but that's mostly against part timers like myself.

NOS Cheater is a cheaply made 'profit maker' from that company. It has been around (unchanged) for around 20-25 years. There are MUCH better quality kits on the market. The Edelbrock RPM setup makes the Cheater look like a toy. It's a much better system.

With the 302's ten tiny 7/16" head bolts, I wouldn't go over 100-150 horsepower, or chances are, you'll be changing head gaskets. You'll need to pull plenty of timing and use GOOD fuel when on the bottle. It takes VERY little detonation to pop a head gasket on these little engines.

Good Luck!
