Going to put an AOD in my 70 Mustang while its apart. Im considering going to the wide ratio gear set. But, Im not sure its such a good deal. The engine is a 500 hp or so 393, 4000 stall. I can see the benefit of the lower ratio set off the line, but I wonder about the 2-3 shift. Being farther away from 1 to 1, it looks like the possiblilty exists to lug the engine a little? But, I would also think that the difference in 60 foot times, would be a bigger factor than maybe lugging the top end for a split second? Do I make sense? Of course there is also the reduced RPM's at highway speed, ie not having to use as low as gear to get the same final ratio through 1 and 2.Give me some opinions, please. Thanks Von

With a big inch 500 HP motor, and being a street car, the low gear set would be a waste of money and effort. The 2.46 is plenty to get the car moving.
