I was noticing how long it takes for my car to warm up and wondered if this tube on the header with nothing hooked to it is supposed to be used to help the car warm up? Its a small (mabye 3/8") U-shaped tube welded to the back primary on the pass. side. What is this supposed to be for?------------------ '67 coupe: 289 bored .030 over, c-4 tranny Holley 600 carb, edelbrock performer intake, Crane XR-i ignition, hooker comp headers, dual flowmaster exhuast C-4 (stock) 3.55s with traclok

There would another tube thats runs from the exhaust manifold to the stock air cleaner which would have a flap that would allow the air going into the carb to be warmed from the heat of the exhaust manifold.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. How can I hook all that up? Is it useful? Should I do it?

Just 3/8"? Sounds like it would be the "stove" for the automatic choke that would allow warm air to be pulled up the carb to help the automatic choke's bimetal coil heat up quicker. A lot of the factory carbs and many of the Holley's had this feature incorporated within them.Usually the hose running to the air cleaner with a flapper valve would be much larger (on the order of 1? or 2") and that is used primarily to prevent icing in the carburetor during the initial warmup period or under steady cruise conditions where the dewpoint temperature is greater than ambient temperature.

Yeah, it sounds like the same U shaped tube that the Hooker headers on my old 428CJ 70 Mach 1 had. It was welded to the last header tube on the passenger side, close to the flange. It`s meant to replace the holes that the stock exh. manifolds had to provide heated air for the automatic choke. The only other thing it`s usefull for is tearing skin of your wrists while changing spark plugs!------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker 302 5speed. 13.04@101mph 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

Rory is correct, the U tube will only work with the old style heat actuated chokes for the carb. One end went to the fitting on the carb that went to the choke coil, the other went to a source that would suck filtered air. Mike

It takes forever for the choke to turn off, that the reason I was wondering. I was pretty sure that tube was used for turning the choke off sooner, and thats what I need to do.------------------ '67 coupe: 289 bored .030 over, c-4 tranny Holley 600 carb, edelbrock performer intake, Crane XR-i ignition, hooker comp headers, dual flowmaster exhuast C-4 (stock) 3.55s with traclok

You can adjust your electric choke to go off, or open sooner. Does the motor get warm now before the choke is off, or open ? If so then the choke needs to be adjusted.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc. First does the choke stay closed after the motor is warmed up ? If so there is a black dail on the choke side of the carb. It should have the words richer and leaner tuning the the dail will make the choke open more soon or stay closed longer. But if the motor is not warm yet and the choke opens to soon, it will stumble alittle until it warms up.------------------ SCOOP oddly obsessed with big scoops on little Mustangs 65 coupe,351w,C4,Big Boss 429 hood scoop,8" 3.40 TracLoc.
