When I took the intake off my motor last Fall I noticed an intake runner that was all black in the head. The stuff is like thick tar and has no apparent smell.I'm assuming this is oil being sucked into the intake at the gasket surface. The intake is a little beat up on that gasket surface. It is the back hole on one side, BTW. I think I'll try putting extra silicone around that port. My question is, is one type of silicone better for resisting alchohol than the others? I've been advised to use black, but I'm still not sure. Thanks in advance. ------------------ 63 Falcon 377 Cleveland stroker Flying Toilet alchohol injection. 6.19 @ 110 MPH 1/8 mile 2002 Ranger FX4 daily driver 2000 F350 PSD Crew cab dually - Like commuting in a B52!! 98 US Cargo Phantom II 28'

I don't run alky, but I like the ultra black Permatex. I don't even use intake gaskets anymore. Just a thin layer of black and let it setup. I resently had a seminar put on by a Loctite rep. He showed some examples of some silicons that eat aluminum. Specifically, the silicon sealers that has the strong, vinigary smell. Mostly the blue, clear and some black silicons do it. Have you ever seen an intake mounting flange or aluminum water pump that is pitted or corroded? The silicon is what causes most of this. That's when I switched to the Ultra Black. It doesn't corrode aluminum. I can't really help on the alky issue. ------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 351C 4V

Check out the Ford silicone you get in the caulk-type tube. It's made specificly for the Powerstrokes, but its some awesome stuff. It's expensive, but you get a lot of it. If you are doing a whole intake might be worth it. What else would you expect from the Blue Oval? ------------------ -Charlie Ping 1970 Maverick Grabber [email protected] with AC and overdrive. http://www.maverickgrabber.com

Now that I think about it, I stuck the gaskets down with black but didn't put any on the top of the gaskets. I don't usually, but I will this time. I'm waiting for one more opinion, but several have said Ultra Black, and I have some, so that's probably what I'll try. Thanks
