Hey Alex, this may be treading on S/S secrets, but do you contour the counterweights on your crankshafts, seems to me there would be more hp unlocked by this then any windagetray/scrapers could alone. If you do, have you ever done any dyno testing to see the benifits or have any guestimates to how much it helps? I rounded off the leading and trailing edges of my Cleveland crank, just wondering if it was worth the time? Also wondering if more of a knife edge would be better then rounding? I'm sure others would be interested, If it's not Top Secret!!!!

It's worth a ton. Just look at the Nascar stuff sometime.

Just not legal for IHRA/NHRA Superstock.

All we are allowed is a "typical" balance job. We try to get as creative as possible within those parameters.
Knife edging the crank is a major no-no for us.

Is knife edging better, or a "wing" shape? I've seen some high dollar cranks and they all seem to come with the wing shape, and not really knife edged.

When I was having my machine work done I asked what was best, they thought that knife edging may be a little better then rounding or wing shape but for the amount of grinding the little gain might not be worth it, that was thier opinion though I don't think they had any real test to back it up. By the way, when I did mine, I bolted the crank to an old flexplate, then adjusted the arms on my engine stand to the four holes the converter bolts to, made a nice crank rotisserie, also really tape up all the rod and main journals with thick masking or duct tape so there are no accidents, deffinatly has to be done before balancing.
