I have decided that I am going to pull my motor down and file the top ring for the extra clearance on the kb pistons. I currently have a xe-268-h cam in there and it pings on pump gas because of my higher compression ratio, It think it is closer to 10:1 than the 11:1 I thought it was before. Comp has recommended a 31-600-5 specialty cam. The specs are 108 lsa, 235 duration at .050 on both sides and .528 lift on both sides. The tech at comp said that it should run on pump gas with this cam and it will top out at 6,300- 6,400 rpm. What do you guys think of this cam? What will happen to my bottom end torque, and you think I will build more power with it? Alex what do you think of it? Do you think that it will run on pump gas with this cam. It is supposed to bleed off cylinder pressure, were as the extreme energy is supposed to build it. It will run with octane booster so it is close to not pinging.------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 306 with 600 holley, Weiand Stealth intake, headers, Comp cam, harland sharp roller rockers, kb pistons, 11:1 compression ratio, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. Someone please give me some help here. Also I have gotten some other cam suggestions what do you guys think of these: From a friend of mine: You should look into ordering a custom xtreme energy solid flat tappet. I was just looking through their lobes and they have one that is [email protected] , 274 advertised .536 lift. The lobe number is 6055. You could run that lobe on the intake side and run the 6056 xtreme lobe on the exhaust, [email protected] , 280 advertised and .546" lift. That would give you a nice 6 degree split for the exhaust port and you could have them grind it with the 108 LSA ground into it. Another from comp cams tech is the 35-334-4 windosr cam with the other firing order which I hear is better. What do you guys think, I need help baddd!

My best advice for you is to call Alex "MoneyMaker" he'll help you with the cam choice, and he has great prices too.

I'm no cam expert but the increased duration should help but the narrower LSA will increase cylinder pressure. Maybe consider a 110 LSA. JMHO

Hey alex can you give me a recommendation right here in this post. I don't want to call you because I don't want to disturb you and take your time. I'd rather just have you post it here when you get a chance, plus I don't want to repeat it all out gain. I would really appreciate your opinion though Alex, so please post. I don't want pinging, but I also don't want to loose all my low end, but a little is o.k. I also would like to keep the rpm below 6,500 if at all possible. I little more on the top I wouldn't complain about though. ------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 306 with 600 holley, Weiand Stealth intake, headers, Comp cam, harland sharp roller rockers, kb pistons, 11:1 compression ratio, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. What have you got for cylinder heads? As it is, you are topped out with that small carb. That's probably why you are experiancing the spark knock.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! I have D0OE-C castings ported by my dad. I put 1.84,1.54 stainless steel valves in it. I run flowtech headers and plan to go to 2.5" exhaust. I was thinking of putting a 650 double pumper on it, or I have a 750 vs laying out in the garage I could try on it. There is no audiable pinging over about 3,000 rpm. It is fine after that, it is just at lower rpm's were it pings. I did solve it, but I had to back my timing down to 8 intial and 28 total to get rid of it, and that is running with octane booster. I also have a stealth intake on it that is port matched to the heads. My dad ported it to about a 1-2" into the ports on the intake. Also I think that my compression ratio is at 10.3:1 not the 11:1 I thought it was before.------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 306 with 600 holley, Weiand Stealth intake, headers, Comp cam, harland sharp roller rockers, kb pistons, 11:1 compression ratio, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear.
