I've been looking at the pro toplines as an economical solution to power building heads. however, i found a thread on hotrodders.com, by some people that work and sell these heads, that suggests that they are half as good as i thought, may require machineing to fit, and don't flow like the pro topline site says, ect. Just want to make sure everyone here knows this before they spend money on an inferior head, and wish they hadn't.and here is a link to the thread link ------------------ 1974 Gran Torino (351W/c6) My Page Mustang&Fords suggested a Torino restomod, but i have yet to see one...so i'm building one [This message has been edited by Dubz (edited 02-03-2004).]

Sadly almost ALL flow figures you see advertised are inflated. Sales propaganda generally. Run 4V cleveland heads and you can be assured of high flow and good quality BTW always let someone else try out the flavor of the week hot rod parts. Many head castings have had problems with the first year of so of production (TFS, Edelbrock, World etc). An old Porsche factory driver was once asked why he never tested brand new cars - "Ve let the others find out what breaks first". Same could be said for many things. My 4V heads with the aluminum stuffers and a bad clay blending job on the short turn flowed 290 intake/210 exhaust at .700 with 28" of pressure. I'll post the full flow data tonight. Note that many others claim more flow. Here you go Intake Lift CFM 0.025 21.14 0.050 37.52 0.075 0.100 68.6 0.150 102.86 0.200 131.72 0.250 161.32 0.300 188.256 0.350 205.128 0.400 220.52 0.450 233.625 0.500 246.98 0.550 258.1 0.600 275.9 0.650 0.700 289.25 0.750 Exhaust Lift CFM 0.025 37.93 0.050 41.9 0.075 0.100 53.53 0.150 74.78 0.200 100.01 0.250 119.87 0.300 143.36 0.350 151.92 0.400 168.408 0.450 181.405 0.500 193.134 0.550 202.64 0.600 207.72 While the intake number look good compared to Windsor heads, I fully expected 300 cfm at .600 lift. Maybe the test port had the seats hammered by the wiped cam.....

DO NOT beleive everything you read in mag's or online. I have actually had my hands on several sets of Pro Topline heads, and I will say this, I rank them above any of the other iron heads available right now. The shop I used to help sold a lot of them, and never had any problems with them ever. If I were in the market to purchase aftermarket W heads right now, I would not hesitate to buy Pro Toplines in either iron or aluminum. And they are what I would buy.

not too reassuring when people selling them are complaining though... although there are still on my list of iron heads. It'd be nice to hear specific application stuff such as the W heads, since chev problems won't bother me none, just make them slower so it's easier for me to win on race day ------------------ 1974 Gran Torino (351W/c6) My Page Mustang&Fords suggested a Torino restomod, but i have yet to see one...so i'm building one
