This may or may not be the proper forum for this, but I'll ask anyway. Got the whole front end out of my 70 fastback. Thinking of performing the "Shelby Drop" while I have it apart. I have a template that shows to drop the upper control arms by 1 inch. Has anyone done it and what if any, are the negatives to having it this way. Thanks Von

Don't do it unless you plan on road racing/street only. Please explain why/how this would hurt drag racing. I cant see how it would affect weight transfer, but maybe it does?? Or is more tire on the ground at a given time?

Ok, so can someone who does take their car to the 1320 sometimes and has dropped their control arms, tell me how much it hurt weight transfer/forward bite, etc.?? This car will be a 12 sec. car, Im wanting to know exactly how much the mod can hurt weight transfer/forward bite, etc. Also, does this mod make tire wear an issue or tracking on the street?

Hi Alex, I'm currently reviewing my budget regarding purchasing a pair of your greaseable spring perches - I really think they'd help my car a bunch! I'm also planning to do some trimming on my frame rails a bit to allow the A-arms to swing down further (I haven't determined whether or not I'll need to go with longer-stroke front shocks after the frame trimming). If at all possible, would you also email me your expert solution as to how to, "...keep those wheels pointed straight forward and straight up and down"? Thanks! Ryan

Sorry I didn't see how fast this thread was developing, Alex is right I tried lowering my upper control arm. I'm estimating that it cost me at least 3~4 hundredths in 60' and i'm not sure how much down track. When you lower the arm it really affects the Camber causing the wheels to come in at the bottom and Toe-In excessively. If you want to lower the car I suggest you do it through Spring Selection, Alex should be able to help you at that.

Here's another way to look at it: "A drag Car should TRY to run as close to ZERO Camber as possible. If you lower the mount the top of the tire will lean in and INCREASE your rolling resistance. It is Also important to run the SAME camber on both sides. Lowering the upper control arm could also effect Toe In by making it "Toe Out" This is VERY undesirable in a drag car. At the very least if you do this you should re-check your Caster, Camber, Toe in and make sure you did not create Bump steer."

A 4 wheel drive Mustang? I did the upper control arm drop thingie on my Fairlane, lowered the whole upper perch about 1/2" to increase the travel and keep the tire more vertical. Stock the top of the tires tip inwards a bunch when the wheels are hanging. I thought that's what the "Shelby drop" did?

Alex, I am having some problems with my computer at work. I just upgraded to the latest virus software and then found a Worm that the software wouldn't remove so I had to manually remove the worm. It really sucked!!!! I spent half the day doing that crap!!!

Ok..I feel left out here..... Alex I am interested in what parts you sell to use up front. This is my current project in the next couple weeks. I have some kind of modified lower control arm on it now. I am thinking 6 cyl springs and 90/10 shocks. What else have you got that would work?? And I thought I knew something about early Mustang front end geometry. After spending two solid days flogging our stuff at the premier drag race front end man's shop in Dayton Ohio, I have to revise a few of my figures and specs. It is amazing how much the bump steer can change with the slightest amount of caster movement. With our new adjustable strut rods we now have a lot more latitude than anticipated. We used to just shim the hard bushings for desired results, but now we have almost infinate adjustment. Drawings, specs, and even some pics later in the week. No race this weekend, but we do have a couple of cars to get done asap. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS! Yes I have. Now all I need is someone to come over here and do all of my work for me so I can spend about 3-4 no stop hours scanning diagrams, transfering text from word, and then locating a host for the scanned pics, and transfering to a usable format, and either sending out 137 e-mails or posting it all here. Any takers? I didn't think so.
Hopefully some time tomorrow when Beth is back home so she can help me. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,& '04 First SS/MA in the TENS!
