I drive this car on the street often, and I want it to be faster. Its a '67 289 with holley 600 vac. sec carb, edelbrock performer intake, hooker headers, crane ignition, and dual exhuast. Everything else is just stock rebuild (rebuilt about 5000 miles ago). I dont want to have to change anything besides the cam, lifters and springs. I want to keep my stock stall converter and heads. Here are 10 cams I have found that either people have suggested or I found on my own. Name of Cam Adv. Duration Int/Exh Duration @ .050 Gross Lift Int/Exh RPM range Lobe Sep. Int/Exh Lunati Street Avenger 265/265 --- 484/484 1000-5000 ---
Blue Racer Cam 270/280 204/217 448/472 --- 107/117
Lunati Bracket Racer II 284/284 218/218 488/488 1500-5000 110
Comp High Energy 268/268 218/218 456/456 1500-5500 110
Ford Racing 280/290 204/214 448/472 2500-5500 107/117
Comp Nostalgia Plus 266/273 219/226 480/475 --- 112
Comp Xtreme Energy 268/280 224/230 509/512 1600-5800 110
Comp Xtreme Energy 262/270 218/224 493/500 1300-5600 110
Comp Magnum 270/270 224/224 501/501 1800-5800 110
Crane Energizer 272/272 216/216 484/484 2000-5000 110
What do you suggest?

The Lunati bracket racer, the blue race, the Ford racing, and the Comp Xtreme energy are too big for your application. The pick is the Comp 270S or 270H. SteveW

Which Xtreme energy is too big? Some of those you mentioned have "bigger" specs than the 270. At what point would I run into a problem with piston to valve clearance? And if I get new springs with the cam, will I be able to rev to 6000 safely? ------------------ '67 coupe: 289 bored .030 over, c-4 tranny Holley 600 carb, edelbrock performer intake, hooker comp headers, dual flowmaster exhuast 3.55s with traclok

With the xtreme energy 262, will valve springs be neccessary? And if I was to get a carb spacer, open or four hole?

I think valve springs are neccessary, because stock springs can't work properly with that cam! I bought it with K kit.It includes springs, retainers, locks, timing chain, seals, lifters.
