not exactly... when you ditch the P.S you'll just have an empty groove left on the pulley, the belt that drives the alternator doesn't drive the P.S pump. You should use single groove pulleys to make it look proper.

I know the belt that drives the alternator does not drive the Power Steering pump however since the power steering is not there and there are empty grooves on the water pump pulley and crankshaft pulley can i route a belt around the two empty grooves (route a belt around just the Water pump pulley and the Crankshaft pulley, then the second set of grooves will drive the alternator) let me know what you think thanks.

YES Tom was saying to make it look better use a single pully. If you wanted to use one belt to drive the WP and Alt.------------------

I have been wondering the same thing, because having two belts is nice - redundancy in case one breaks on you. What you mean is having 1 belt for CRANK/WATERPUMP/ALTERNATOR and another small belt running in the old P/S grooves for just CRANK/WATERPUMP But where do I find a belt small enough to fit over just the crank pulley and water pump, and how do you tension it? I dont think its very feasible without a tensioner. ------------------ '68 coupe 289 C code 66 heads, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

I've seen guys run two belts around the CRANK/WATERPUMP/ALTERNATOR, but I don't think I've seen it the way you said. You wouldn't wan't to lose your ALT either. They say for cars that see high rpms two belts are better in case one flys off.

I've worked on engines that run a belt from the crank to the water pump only, mostly on tractors. You just unbolt the water pump pulley to put the belt on. You see engines on dynos set up like that. One thing to keep in mind is the groove on a power steering pulley is wider. {17000 series vs 15000 series on alternators.} ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip [This message has been edited by SteveLaRiviere (edited 01-05-2004).]
