Recently started into a blow-thru turbocharged small block Ford project. My trouble is,with the 347 combo I had planned,Dyno2000 is claiming [email protected]'m worried about the Mexican block hangin' together at this level.I would like to step up to a 393ci combo, but I would need to buy new intake, dist, etc, etc, etc.I'll do it if I HAVE to,but if the 'hecho en mexico' is good enough, then I'm off the hook.Hoping Alex or some of you other deranged individuals with experience torturing stock 289/302 blocks will throw in you $0.02 PS:That 573hp combo was with a real mild turbo cam;with the x303 it predicted over 600hp.Yikes.Wonder how accurate that can be?------------------ DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

On a related note, did anyone notice that Ford has de-rated some of there race blocks in the 2004 FRPP catalog? The B50 block, which is similar to the Mexican block but with hydraulic roller provisions, is now only rated at 450 HP at 6500 RPM. Seems they are getting conservative on their ratings. The FRPP catalog has a big disclaimer saying that this figure has been backed up by extensive dyno and in-car testing. Lots of no expressed or implied warranty legalese at the front of the catalog, too. A buddy is running a B50 block making over 500 RWHP at 7500 RPM. His engine builder is suggesting pulling the main caps to see if the bearings show any sign of the caps walking. Dan Jones

A deranged buddy of mine back in Iowa is running a Mexican blocked 289 based motor in his 5 speed equipped '64 Fairlane. It weighs about 2600 lbs w/driver, and runs high nine's in the qrtr, shifting over 9000 rpm. He told me once he launched it at 9600 and shifted it at 9200. He doesn't have any problems with it.

Yup, that's him. His builder put the girdle on it but is telling him it's time to start thinking about an R302 block. He has a bunch more hydraulic roller cams to test but they are also considering some solid roller grinds to see how close they are coming with the hydraulic grinds.Dan Jones
