More bullsh*t. Waste of money.
They creat a ring flutter and loss of compression IE: loss of power.
Might be OK on a diesel.

I have tried them all!

I've talked to many guys who run them because they read about how good they are. They all say the cranking compression is better and the leak down is better, but that's only in the garage. What about on the track? I haven't talked to anyone who could, without a doubt, claim a power increase at speed. No improved ETs. No dyno outputs. The ring flutter doesn't show in a leak down or compression test. I tend to believe Alex. If you can't improve ET, why bother. To me, it's unproven technology. Maybe not even technology. Maybe just a gimick. All I know is I won't be using them soon.

Some of the local engine builders think the gapless top set are great. Worth a few hp (they claim 6 or 7) over normal sets. However these rings are very expensive.
As Alex mentioned, the gapless second ring sets are reputed to hold pressure between the first and second ring causing flutter of the top ring IIRC.
However can you measure 6 or 7 hp on the track?

The gapless ring on the second land does trap the top ring and keep it from doing its job. I just had to try the stupid trick of the week some time back. Even with a dry sump engine I had to run a vacuum pump and hook back up the pan evac just to give the 9+ PSI OF PRESSURE TO GO SOMEWHERE besides every orific the engine had and even some I did not know it had(above 6800RPM it futtered the rings like crazy). I now run gas ported pistons with normal file fit rings and will not try anymore tricks of the week. It is even running thru the clutch now so no telling how much power those things were costing.

We run side gas portsand a .031 top ring with great success.
The thinner the ring the better.
The only racers I know that use the gapless rings are TAD and TAFC. The high speed blowers and huge amounts of alcohol will blow past anything else I am told.
We do have a very trick second ring and an ultra low tension oil ring package.
