As i'm thinking sometime down the road i might have a shot of giggle juice i'd like the timing retard that comes with the digial 6plus, as well as the idea of not having to buy the rpm pills.

So anyway....what all would i need to run a MSD Digital 6 ignition? I'd be using an MSD distributor with it, i need to re-curve my stock one since i installed the new intake and got rid of the EGR.

Do i need a pickup or crank trigger of some kind??

And how do they actually change the timing?

Thanks for the help again guys

You have everything you need to run the 6+. It's a great box, I run one on the other car. Best bang for your $$$. The MSD distributor or any other electronic distributor will fire it. The retard is electronic and built into the box. No magic, just a simple electrical hook-up.

interesting...i have no idea how they work, so it is magic to me

Good stuff, would you think i should re-curve the stock distributor or go with an aftermarket one? I was leaning towards the aftermarket, but if the stock one will work up to 5500rpm there isn't a big need to upgrade.

Dubz,

Use the stock one and lock it out at 34 degrees or so. The 6+ has timing retard for starting so you'll be fine, assuming you'll have a 3,000+ converter in it.

the blaster is only 35.00 but your stock one will work so long as it is for electronic ign and not points. The blaster hvcII coil is suppost to be a good durable one,not to be confused with the hvc2 the non blaster one its only for the track and msd 7 boxes.Bruce

Dubz I use the Blaster2 MSD coil for $30.
I'm going with the 6al when I change over.

Is the Digial6 worth the extra $80 or so dollars over the 6al ?

If you are starting from scratch, I think it's worth it. If you go with the 6AL, look at all of the accessories you might need or want.

2 step
various chips(or adjustable chip)
Optional start retard.
Possible other stuff

Add all of that up and compair the price to a digital6 that has most of that stuff built in. It won't take long for the digital6 to become cheaper than the 6AL.

They delay the trigger signal to the coil to retard the spark.

Scoop,

You can go to the MSD site and download the wiring diagrams for connecting the Digital 6 to a Duraspark dist.
http://www.msdignition.com/
Look under the downloads and you will see all the manuals.
