I'm trying to get rings for my 5.0L HO rebuild and am having no luck. The block is standard bore with no wear and I'm looking for plain rebuilder type rings. The 5.0L OEM rings are low tension metric rings, BTW. Standard 4" bore size rings show a 21 to 22 thousandths end gap which is too large. No one seems to be able to come up with the file-to-fit 4.005" rings either. I even tried Summit. We've simply deglazed the block and the original cross hatch is visible. Alex recommending standard rebuilder iron rings, staying away from harder moly or chrome rings. The parts store rings show up as economy or premium in the computers with no mention of material. Even the instructions in the box make no mention. I assume the economy are plain iron rings and the premium are moly but I can't get the metric rings in a plain cast iron locally or from Summit (claims they are made only in moly). I can get the E-458K "premium" Sealed Power set in standard (too large a gap) or in 20 thousands over. Is 20 thou over too large to file fit back to standard? It seems like the larger bore rings won't be round in a smaller hole. Dan Jones

.020-.022 is ok for your street engine Dan. The OE non filled block will expand more than you think.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! Are the E-458K "premium" Sealed Power rings acceptable? I think they're moly. Dan Jones

They will work fine. Just take more time to break in and seat so expect some oil usage and smoke.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! It looks like I might be able to locate the E-458X cast iron Sealed Power rings locally (won't know until Monday). I've also found some mail order sources that have file-to-fit Speed Pro moly rings sets (4.005" bore for the 1.5mm/1.5mm/4mm rings the 5.0L pistons require). Dan Jones
