I've a nasty feeling the water jacket in my 429 has a crack. I'm having it tested and the result will be in tomorrow. Meanwhile I'm preparing for the worst. Does anyone know a product called Seal Up from Cargo Chemical of Texas? Here's the link ... http://www.cargochemical.com/sealupwork.htm If the hype is true, it sounds like a great product. Thanks, Simon

The verdict's in - a crack inside, and this after I'd already paid to have new sleeves and camshaft bearings installed! Stupid me! So tomorrow I'm either going to order some Seal Up or start searching for a new block. Any last-minute opinions would be very welcome!

Start searching for a new block. They should be pretty easy to come by. In many cases it is cheaper to find an old Lincoln or Mercury and buy the entire running car than it is to pick up a block alone. If you get pressed let me know, I have to un-touched service replacement 460 blocks and I *might* let one go for a decent offer. ------------------ Jay Kilroy 68' Fastback GT 390 "No such thing as a cam thats too big"

That's nice of you to offer Jay, but I dread to think what the shipping cost would be to Manila I think I'll have to pass.

That stuff you mentioned might work well. Sounds like it's fairly popular.Moroso makes a ceramic type block sealer that is supposed to work pretty well. You might check into that. (It's been around a long time) I realize Ford engine blocks probably aren't all that easy to find in the Phillipines! I don't think any kind of sealer is going to help very much if a cylinder wall is cracked, it might stop it or slow it down for a short amount of time, but it sure wouldn't be a permanant fix. You said the block had been sleeved, is this the cylinder that is leaking, if yes, maybe the shop didn't do it right, or it was a bad sleeve to begin with. I think some sleeves come in different thicknesses, maybe the block could be cut deeper and a thicker sleeve installed, might be cheaper and easier then finding a new block. Roger

After I wrote the above I realized you said water jacket, so it probably isn't the actual cylinder wall cracked, where is the crack located, maybe there's a chance of having it welded. Roger

Hey Fastback68,I have a buddy that travels to you're part of the world pretty often, four or five times a year. If you are looking for small stuff I could have him bring stuff over for you sometimes. We are also looking at some business opps at the old base there. I'll let you know how it works out. ------------------ Jay Kilroy 68' Fastback GT 390 "No such thing as a cam thats too big"

Let me know when you're friend's coming and thanks for the offer Are you talking Clark Air Base or Subic Naval Base? Clark (Angeles City) has become a den of thieves, so watch yourself! It's muscle car heaven if it's stolen cars you're after!
