"we picked up my ~new~ stripper yesterday! here are some pics we took this morning (yep... that is frost on the windshield!! yikes!!)

we have a short-list of things to address before i take her down the track.....
but the plan is to attempt to have her out for the final weekend of racing at farmington! (first weekend in december.)

we are in the process of identifying the heads, as we are not convinced they are CJ's. i am pretty sure the fella we bought it from had aquired it without really
knowing what he bought.

i will be horribly sad to stop racing the red 70..... i absolutely adore that ride... but it is a street car and i cant go much faster in it unless we add roll-bars etc... and
we refuse to do such a thing to that sexy beauty!!"

GREAT LOOKING RACER, KK!!

It also looks like it barely fit on the trailer with those big meats out back!

Good Luck with it and make sure you keep us informed on your progress!!

Sorry to burst your bubble but heads are not CJ/SCJ. There would be a themactor hole in the end of the head which is not apparent on these. Car looks like it will be a handful anyway! Any idea as to how it has run in the past?

You're right. The heads arent CJ heads. After speaking with the guy for a little while today when we got the car, it became very appearant he didn't know anything about the motor. He said they were, but they aren't. That's not that big of a deal. CJ heads would have been nice, but, we sure aren't going to complain about the fact they aren't. A buddy of mine that knows a fair bit about clevelands and 385 series motors told me the base DOVE head with CJ valves and some basic port work are 60 hp better than stock cj heads. So, it's not a great loss. I have a die grinder, and aint agraid to use it.

He told us he only put 14 passes on the car. He said leaving at an idle, with the timing turned back and running pump gas, shifting at 5400 rpm, it ran 7.02 @ 100 mph with a 1.59 60' time.

And only a 750 dp on top of that big ole motor (it is a .040 over 460 after all, what's that come up too? 468?). I do have an 850 dp that is just sitting in the shed. That should pick it up a touch too.

Replacing the 3200 rpm convertor with my old C6 4500 stall 8" would probably pick it up a bunch too, if it would hook.

Those are, however, real CJ finned valve covers that are worth WAY more to a collector than they are on a race car. I have seen them go for well over 200 a pair on Ebay.

Welcome to big block land. Give me a call when you start thinking stroker, I have enough parts laying around to build 3 or 4 and could be "teased" into letting go of some for a very reasonable amount.

Good score, decently quick too. The scoop is must-toss. This is a case where a cowl hood would be a big improvement, not sure if they have those for 79-83's except the bolt on Pace Car types.

Congrats on the new car. Welcome to the BBF world. It's a whole different ballgame. But it's fun to learn. I consider this my "home" site, but there is much good info on the BBF forum.
