Someone at the track the other day suggested I try a 650DP the said they thought it would out ET the 750 Dp I have on my car cause it would run harder the first half of the track. What do you think is there any truth to this. 3200lbs with driver 1/8th mile footbrake car 351W stock heads 1.90/1.60 mild port COmp 282S 236@50 528 110 ls 10:1 RPM intake C6 3500 stall 4.56 28" slicks Shift at 6000 Runs 1.72-1.74 60 ft mid 5.20's 330ft low 8.20's 660ft 83-84mph [This message has been edited by Jerry Piner (edited 11-25-2003).]

The only way to really tell is to try it. But, I highly doubt your problem is too much carb. Too tight of convertor stands out as the main problem. KK's car runs a 750 dp and runs great with it. I would suspect her's would slow down with a smaller carb. Last sunday she ran a best of 7.608 at just over 90 mph. I honestly think it would have gone in the 7.50's on the next pass had it not for some un-explained reason spun the tires (that was the first time it had EVER spun the tires when it tried to leave.)

Jerry, I dont think a smaller carb would help either. Just for kicks, try shifting at 5400 rpms instead of 6000. You may see a faster mph. You seem to be a little sluggish for what you are describing. Maybe you are at the outer edge of your pulling range on your cam. Shell

I think Kid has a good point about the convertor not just that it is to tight but also the quality. It is a Dacco I paid $200 for plus the C6 is killing me. I am hoping to swap to a C4 and a better convertor for next year I have been shooping around for a good 10" with 4000-42000 stall. Would really like to have an 8" just not in the budget right now.

A friend of mine is running almost the exact same combo as yours except his cam is a 280H. He uses a 650 DP and 4 hole spacer. He wound up raising his shift points from 6000 to 6400 rpms and gained .2 and 2 mph in the 1/8th. Car weighs 3400 lbs and runs 7.88 @ 85 mph.

Motor, trans, convertor, gear, tires, etc. I just think something is missing with my combo. Your friend plus 3 or 4 other combo on this site I have read about that are very similar to mine and they are all running 7.60'-7.80's and the best I have gone is 8.15. Just trying to figure out what is wrong with mine.

'72 Mustang, same drive combo as yours and he uses a 280H cam, Stealth intake with 1/2" 4 hole spacer, and a 650 Speed Demon carb. 351W block 0 decked. '69 Windsor Heads have 1.90/1.55 undercut and backcut stainless valves, with intake port opened up first 2" to match intake manifold and bowl blended with guide castings completely removed for bronze guides. Exhaust port cleaned out and opened up to match the Hooker headers. Stall is 3800 I believe. Get's 1.70 60', and shift at 63-6400 rpms. Nothin' fancy.

BTW a Demon "650" really flows around 710 or so. That way Demons always look like they make more power than holleys in magazine tests.
