Ran my car for the first time this past weekend. My first run ever I ran a 15.08 @ 103 or something, I couldn't find 2nd gear for a few seconds and I was spinning all through first, most of the way through second, and a few seconds in third. My next run was like 14.8 @ 102 cause I didn't even launch it but still got into it too quick and spun through third gear again. I finally put on the ET Streets with 20 psi for the 'test run' and I only launched at like 3K not knowing if they were gonna hook or not. THEY HOOKED! but I didn't really get into it til I noticed they didn't spin on the 2nd gear shift so I missed some time there but it still ran 13.4@104 MPH .. I was all set to lower the pressure and launch it hard until I started hearing odd noies and smelling clutch. Long story short, we had to drive it home with a busted tranny, clutch, and rearend. I only got in 3 runs that day but considering it was my first time and every run my ET's, RT's, 60's, and MPH got better it's cool with me. I have the rearend situation figured out, having a 9" hosuing/axles built for a 3rd member I already have but I still need to figure out a transmission. I want another manual overdrive like my T5 but I don't want to be afraid to throw power at it like I was with this one. It's a top end 306 now but it might be a torquey 347 in the future so 450-500 ft lbs of torque would be sweet. I don't mind cutting up the tunnel or whatever if it means a stronger transmission. I was looking at the 3550 and TKO transmissions but from what I hear the 3.27 first gear and a 4.11 rear gear make the first gear too fast and unusable. I don't want it to be so fast that it hits the rev limiter or I just start off in second, that defeats the purpose of a 5 speed if i wanted that I'd get a 4 speed. This is a multiple purpose street/strip car that I drive aroudn town or to the track, mount slicks, adjust a few things and let it rip, then adjust back and drive it home. I don't want an auto or a 4 speed! So I'm looking at a beefed up T5 like the G-Force with a 2.95 first gear or even a T56 6 speed with an even taller first gear. How short exactly would the 3.27 1st gear and the 4.11 rear gear be? Would 1st gear be useable at all on the street or at the track(assuming traction)? I guess I wouldn't totally mind the short first gear if it worked out to redline me at the track. My rear race tire is 27" tall and my rear gear will be 4.11, I'd like to cross the line at or around my redline between 6400-6800 RPM. Any suggestions?! THANKS!!!!!

You really need a built c-4 and a good converter in that Mustang!

Second choice would be a close ratio top loader with a 3.50 rear gear. Your starting line ratio is too low, and will be even worse with the T56. Don't make it harder than it is.
