I think is is like the SB2 chebby head where the intake ports point towards the center of the engine. So the front two chambers/ports on each side are mirror images of the rear.

The cylinder head has been listed in the FRPP catalog for a year or so now....M-6049-SC1http://www.oemfordparts.com/PartDetail.asp?S=1&PartID=1172&SubCategoryID=38

Actually, that is not the new NASCAR head from what I gather.

There was a head Ford made in the early 90's that I saw at a swap meet once. It had the symetrical intake ports (mirrored, front 2 cylinders to the rear 2) and had the center exhausts "siamesed"). NASCAR never made that head legal but sounds like it may have been ahead of its time. If memory serves the heads I saw were run on an ARCA car and it kicked a$$

From what I understand, the new head has some changes to the port layout, not a major redesign. I think its a tribute to the Ford production based NASCAR engine, with 30 year old roots, that it has remained competitive with the pure racing engines developed by GM and Chrysler. Its telling that the classic SBC (replaced by the SB2) had to be abandoned by GM for them to be competitive with it's old rival Ford engine. Its also interesting that the the newly designed Toyota, GM, and Chrysler NASCAR engines all have the middle two exhaust ports adjacent to eachother. It must have something to due with arranging more efficient intake ports for a single plane, single 4V intake. The new Ford head keeps the traditional Ford layout; although there is some talk of a completely new engine design to come a few years down the road. It almost looks to me that NASCAR is slowly implementing the concept where everyone uses the same generic engine and body. ------------------ Bernie Frank 66 Fastback restomod (12.8 @ 112mph) 85 GT (preserved) 2000 SVT CONTOUR

Those were the 2nd generation tunnel ports. Basically no interchange with any other SBF head and required matching/custom everything. They actually made it into the Motorsport catalog but were never really available. When they were cancelled, someone bought up the remaining stock from the initial casting batch. I saw them for sale at one of the Columbus All Ford swapmeets. Dan Jones

RDI had the heads and intakes several years ago. I called and got pricing....They wanted around $2k for the castings and 600 for the intake IIRC.
