Took the BBF dragster to the 1/8 mile track tonight. It had been out of commission for a few weeks. Broke the powerglitch and had to shell out $$$ for a new planetary gearset, so it had to wait on the funds to accumulate.

Air was pretty good tonight, but a fair amount of humidity present. Made the time trials. 1st round hit a .506 light, ran a 4.929 on a 4.92 dial at 140 mph. Killed 2 mph in the lights or it would have run a low 4.92.

2nd round dialed it a 4.91. Hit the tree with a .502, (other guy was .526) it was hauling. I knew it would be a good one. 60' was my best ever 1.096. 330' a 3.170. Then just past half track it shut off. 1st thought was broken crank, then it started running again, shut off again, fired again, then shut off for good. Noticed the dash lights were out. No power to anything. Coasted through with a 5.29 @ 99 Got towed back to the pits.

The FREAKIN BATTERY CABLE had come off the battery. Both batteries. Guess the vibrations had worked the clamps loose. Oh well, try it again next time. I really want a 4.89 before the season is over.

Looks like they would have let you make a test and tune pass since you paid entry fee even after you were out, just to get the low ET.
You know how it is when your racing, all kinds of gremlins start floating out of the woodwork!

Why would you want this old boat anchor? I thought everyone knows that small blocks make more power

BTW, this old boat anchor is all out of the box power. Nothing that makes power in it is special or hi tech. (There is a bit of machine work to improve engine life)

Dave,

What size slicks do you run? I need new slicks but hate to buy them so late in the year and let them set over winter. T^hought I had a pretty good deal, I run 16x33x15's and I bought a set of used Hoosiers with 4 passes for $300 bucks and whenm I got them in the mail they were 17x33.5x16's. Oh, well anybody that needs a set with 16 inch rims I have them!

Russ,

I run Hoosier 33X16.5SX15

The "S" after the 16.5 width is for soft sidewall. Made just for hardtail or slipjoint dragsters. I run the medium C07 compound (for big blocks). They also have a soft compound, C05) for small block dragsters.

The soft compound isn't worth a darn for anything in the summer when the starting line temps get very high. But they hook like gang-busters when the staring line is cool. For a bracket car, or even dragster, I wouldn't run the soft compound unless it was something relatively fast (like a door car running high 4's, or a digger running mid 4's.) But that's just my opinion.

I usually run around 6 lbs pressure this past summer, but due to a leak one slick went ot 5.5 in the stages lanes and I changed tbe other to 5.5. Car ran the best it ever has and didn't move around at all. I was shocked and ran the same pressure in the next round.

I'm gonna get a new set after the first of the year, no use in buying new ones now and having to let them set over winter.

What if the slicks you buy in May have sat in their warehouse for a year?

When you buy a "new" set & then determine that the manufacturer's date stamp in the sidewall tells you they were made 6 or 8 months earlier - do you return them?

Do you specify when you order your slicks that they must be, 'no more than 3 months old'?

........just wonderin',,, Ryan

The key to them lasting is whether or not they have had their first burnout. A new tire that hasn't been used will be ok over the winter in a warehouse out of direct sunlight.

Once you do that first burnout it starts letting the oils in the rubber come to the surface where they can evaporate over time. The tire will loose some of it's softness sitting for the winter, where a new tire will be pretty much ok.
