Hi- two questions, probably should be seperate items but it appears that everyone reads every post here, so this is easier - Question #1 What's a reasonable price for the RPM chips - speed shop out here, Riverside Ca - wants $28.00 for a set - seems a bit high for 5 resistors! Question #1.5 On the same subject, anyone ever made their own two or three step rev limiter box? And finally question #2 - Anyone know of a commercial source for a torque strap or has everyone fabricated their own? Also any bad experiences with them? I was considering taking a new motor mount (64.5) and welding or strapping the two metal sides together, turning it into a solid mount for all intents and purposes. Any thoughts on this or has anyone tried it? Seems it would be simple to do. Thanks in advance -

as for question one, there was a list on this site (you'd have to do a search) for the resistivity values of the different rpm pills. I'd just go out and buy the resistor(s) you would like at radioshack or something for tons less

With those early mounts, you can 1/2" through bolt them. Allows the mount some movement to tame vibration, but can only move as far as you tighten the through bolt. Take a look at this chip: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=3257&prmenbr=361I love them. Eliminates a whole set of chips for under $20. It's adjustable with a small screwdriver. Has a screw in the top. It comes set at 6K rpm. Every 1/4 turn of the screw raises or lowers it by 100 rpm. I case I forgot the spot where I was at I set mine with an ohm meter. Set the meter on the 20K scale. I used the meter to check a bunch of chips from friends to get a list. I posted it on here a couple of years ago. It's not a complete list, but if you want a value not on the list it's easy to get close. RPM Resistance 3000 1.91 3400 2.21 4000 2.70 4600 3.21 5000 3.58 5200 3.77 5400 3.95 5600 4.16 5800 4.35 6000 4.57 6300 4.88 6500 5.10 6600 5.20 6700 5.32 6800 5.43 6900 5.55 7000 5.65 7400 6.12 7600 6.38 7800 6.63 8000 6.89 8600 7.69 8800 7.97 9000 8.27 Later, David Cole

That's the way the driver's side mount on KK's car has been modified. Her brother says he does that to all of his cars, even his street cars and has no problems with them. But all he deals with are 69-70 mustangs. I'm not sure if the early mounts are different though.

I use the shiftnoid adjustable chip. It's the best value. Infinate adjustment for 25 bucks. ------------------ Ben Grabber Green '70 Mach I 351C 4V Robbin Egg Blue '79 Fairmont 351C 4V

Here's another way to look at it about the single chip use-age. I have seen chips go bad. It doesnt happen often, but it does happen from time to time. If all you have is a one-size-fits-all chip and it goes bad, you don't have a replacement, even if it is 100 or 200 rpm different. Granted there are always racers that have extra chips, but I don't like borrowing stuff from other people, especially small stuff like that.

Go to Radio shack and buy $10 bucks worth of precision resistors, and make your own chips. I used to have a little box with a selector switch that I had rigged up with all my resistors in it. A cheap MSD RPM selector box. It worked probably as good as the ones I have now. I'd still have it but I loaned it out and the guy wound up keeping it and I bought a couple of MSD selectors.

We have potentiometers at work just like that Shifnoid set up except you can order them from Newark for less than 5 bucks. I guess they have to make 15 bucks profit on each one. Only in America!

Thanks for all the help and suggestions - I'm going to try drilling the motor mount - probably two holes , one on either side of center - Think I'll start with a 7250 resisitor (thanks for the numbers) and work on making my own 2 or 3 step selectable, maybe with the potentiometers for the bottom two limits for adjustability and a plain resistor for the redline since that won't be changing , probably a pot for a shift light too - Thanks for all the suggestions!!!
