I am debating on what type of shifter to purchase for my 65 Mustang. It has a 351W with a C4 trans.I know I want a rachet type shifter but can't make my mind up on what brand. This is the first automatic car I have owned.Car will mostly be street driven.Trans has a trangos shift improver kit with a 2500 stall.I figured everyone here has tried a few different type of shifters, and was hoping to get some input on what everyone likes, and dislikes.Any advice would be appreciated.THANKS TOMMY

If you want a ratchet shifter, use the B&M Pro ratchet. I have one in each of our race cars. They work great. SteveW

I've always like the stock '65-'66 Mustang shifter. Stealth look turns off most people when they look at my car. They say, "it sounds good, but I think you'd lose 'cause you got an auto." It gets real tempting to start challenging people at that point. Plus it's a solid rod connection to the tranny. No cables to fuss or worry about. Take a look at Alex's MoneyMaker. He's a champ and uses the stock shifter. Erik ------------------ 1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 Mine - Restomod in Progress 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe Dad's - Original Unrestored

I second Erik on the stock shifter. Super sinple, and just take a little practice to get used to. If you MUST have an aftermarket shifter, the I'd recommend the Hurst QuarterStick. Never buy a cheap shifter, you get what you pay for......

Best "Budget" Shifter I ever used was a B&M Z-Gate.......Ratchet appearance in a gate style shifter......The firmer you hit it the better it works.......won't let ya over shift (unless ya push it forward mamby pamby like)........Under $120 at Most Auto parts stores........

I still like the kickdown lever on the trans. The 65 lever is hitting the header.I don't have but maybe 20 miles on the new motor and haven't gotten on it hard yet.I have been looking threw the magazines trying to figure out what shifter would be the best for me.I appreciate everyones feedback and will try the stock shifter out in a few more miles. Also I still have to get the new rearend under it with lower gears and a new pos unit.THANKS TOMMY

Try your stock shifter - I gotta agree with 70 coupe - if I go back to a three speed it will probably be with the Turbo Action SCS, it felt so nice at mfg displays. B&M and Hurst seemed like junk!------------------ Fred 68 Mustang 500CID/Powerglide - "No Tubs" 86 Mustang GT Cobra
