Three bolts isn't enough to hold the pressure plate on, is it? I'm putting an early model (28 oz) engine into my 89 LX. The Cobra pressure plate from the late model motor only lines up with three tapped holes in the early flywheel. I don't think I can use the early pressure plate (3 finger, not diaphragm) with the cable actuated clutch, can I?

Although a Long style 3 finger clutch CAN be used in a FOX car/cable clutch setup, it takes quite a bit of work. When I swapped my 78 302 Fairmont (28 oz.imbalance),over to a T5, I took a 86& newer flywheel from a 5.0 Mustang, & my stock 28 oz. flexplate to my local engine balancing shop, & had them balance the 50 oz. flywheel to the same spec as the early flex plate. That way I got the larger 10.5" clutch, and was able to use a stock clutch, bellhousing & cable clutch linkage. It`s been working great for 6 years now.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker 302 5speed. 13.04@101mph 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd [This message has been edited by Rory McNeil (edited 10-09-2003).] [This message has been edited by Rory McNeil (edited 10-09-2003).]

Welcome to M&M!!Yes the newer clutch and the old flywheel are not compatible. You'll need a custom flywheel to run the newer clutch. SteveW
