Now let me warn you, going down the big block path is very expensive. I think I have collected enough parts to build at least two complete engines but I have yet to drop one in the 68.------------------ Jay Kilroy 68' Fastback GT 390 "No such thing as a cam thats too big"

You can do it man. Don't let these guys give ya BAD INFO. A strong big block can be built on a budget it just depends on how wild you want to go. Just like any motor. I think your main problem is squeezing it in the 68. I think it will fit but Maybe Jay can help you out with the details.

Are we talking FE motor or 429/460? They both fit into a 67/68 WITHOUT cutting anything, should be a bolt in with proper mounts and headers.------------------ Stuart MCA #48902 M&M #1091 67 stang 5 speed, 351W, Edelbrock Performer RPM package my photo page

460s are pretty cheap over here. You can do a nice 460 buildup on a budget. Now FEs cost a fortune if you need a 427 or 428.

I did this to a 68 about 15 years ago - still happy. Easy swap - mounts and headers available from Crites Restorations or MPG Head Service. Put in the biggest rad you can find!------------------ Fred 68 Mustang 500CID/Powerglide - "No Tubs" 86 Mustang GT Cobra

Although 427 FE stuff is pretty pricey, & hard to find, the 428 stuff isn`t all that bad. The 428 thats been running low 10`s in my Fairmont for over 10 years now, uses a regular Tbird/Galaxie block, crank & rods (3/8"). The only Cobra Jet pieces are the heads, and they are stock, with mostly original 1969 valves.TRW/Sealed Power pistons, a solid lifter cam,780 Holley on a OE 427 intake, & a Duraspark dist from a 75-76 Ford pickup. I keep the shift points at 6000-6200 rpm, & it holds together just fine! I bet I have no more than $3500-4,000 in this engine. ------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker 302 5speed. 13.04@101mph 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

It is very possible to make a very reliable 550+ hp using nothing but factory parts. Check out this guys site, he does a great job with D0VE-C heads and sells them ready to go. Not to mention he is a really nice fella.http://reincarnation-automotive.com/ ------------------ Jay Kilroy 68' Fastback GT 390 "No such thing as a cam thats too big"

So you would sell the engine for $3500?
