Ive got a set of early 289 cylinder heads. They are C3OE castings and are date coded for March 1963. I believe they are 289 Hi-Po heads. They have screw-in studs and pushrod holes that are slotted like guide plates. Both heads are stamped with Crane in several places and they have been thouroughly ported. The exhaust ports are round and measure 1.625 inches in diameter. The porting looks awesome! Were these heads sold by Crane in the 60s? The valves are oversized and measure roughly 1 7/8 and 1 5/8. Both heads have C 1184X and 0334 X stamped on the ends. Can anyone give me some history on these? Best of all a Chevy friend gave these to me!

They were not Hipo heads as released/sold by Ford or used on the Hipo engines. If they used a Hipo cores, it would have probably had the cast-in-head spring cups. Yes, Crane sold them in I believe the late 60's. At that time, was one of the better head selections for the 289 engine that was complete and ready to run.

Sounds like you have the Hipo heads for sure then. And now that my old mind has had time to think, the C3OE's were hipo head numbers. But like previously mentioned, Crane did sell the ported heads back in the 60's.

Does anyone know what length pushrods you need to use these heads on a hydraulic roller cam 5.0? Will the stock 5.0 pushrods work?
